Pathfinder Claws of the Tyrant

Pathfinder Claws of the Tyrant (P2)

Claws of the Tyrant is an anthology of three interconnected adventures set in the undead-haunted Gravelands (formerly Lastwall). It’s framed around the machinations of the graveknight Seldeg Bhedlis, who plans a cosmic ritual to rewrite history and unmake goddesses. Players choose whether to resist or assist him, as each chapter flips perspectives and power levels—from refugees to infiltrators to knightly defenders. The book also includes new monsters, feats, and magic items tailored to the Gravelands setting.

🐉 Claw What’s Inside

  • Gravelands Survivors – Level 1 adventure: Players are refugees racing to protect a divine artifact from Seldeg’s grasp.
  • Ashes for Ozem – Level 7 adventure: Agents serving Seldeg infiltrate a stronghold of goodness with secretive orders.
  • Of Blood and Faith – Level 18 adventure: Knights of Lastwall unite for a final confrontation against the graveknight’s ritual.
  • New bestiary, gear, and feats—providing mechanical support for undead and relic-driven campaign flavor.

🔮 How It Plays at the Table

  • Three narrative lenses offer dynamic storytelling: the moral urgency of fleeing, the tension of deception, and the finality of righteous war.
  • Anthology flexibility allows GMs to run them individually or weave them into longer campaigns—or as episodic inserts within existing arcs.
  • Gravelands lore enriches campaign texture: necromantic undertones, haunted ruins, and the cultural ghosts of Lastwall both drive and support dramatic play.

✨ Highlights

  • Bold thematic structure—seeing the same conflict from different angles enhances narrative depth.
  • Progressive scaling—the three tiers of levels (1, 7, and 18) enable GMs to integrate the volumes into varied campaign phases.
  • Setting focus—Gravelands flavor, undead stakes, and divine conflict create a rare blend in PF2e adventures.
  • Special Edition value—the collector’s release ships with premium materials perfect for display or gift giving.

⚠️ Things to Watch

  • Disjointed play—the adventures are linked thematically but not intended for the same character. Expect story overlap, not sequential continuity. Paizo Creative Director James Jacobs: “Think of it as three separate adventures that just happen to be published in one book.”
  • Encounter breadth variance—the dramatic level jump from 1 to 7 to 18 may feel uneven, depending on party power and pacing.
  • Not suited for single-campaign progression—if your group wants a linear AP, this feels more like three flashpoints rather than levels in a single hero’s arc.

🧩 Where It Fits in the Pathfinder Line

Claws of the Tyrant belongs to a cadre of standalone, thematic adventure anthologies—complete packages ideal for one-shots, side arcs, or campaign inserts. It echoes Prey for Death and Crown of the Kobold King in format and ambition, but stakes are higher and darkness deeper. Gravelands’ undead and ancient vengeance provide more than local flavor—they offer eerie epic weight often reserved for AP-level climaxes.

🕊 Final Verdict

Pathfinder: Claws of the Tyrant delivers haunting grandeur in small servings. Its three-part narrative explores grief, betrayal, and divine thaw with visceral theme and tonal clarity. Perfect for GMs looking to evoke cosmic horror, ideological conflict, or heroic sacrifice without committing to a full AP. While it may disorient players expecting linear ascent, its modular drama and dungeon flavor make it a powerful addition for tables ready to meet the necromantic gaze of Seldeg Bhedlis.
